Supply Chain School

Job profiles and job openings in logistics are more varied than in perhaps any other industry. Advanced professional training in this sector hardly does justice to the wide-range of experience and needs of specialists and managers – neither with regard to content nor to the teaching methods.

Until now, advanced training programmes in the logistics sector have not only neglected the needs of the participants, but also the needs of the companies. Employers find time and again that courses are aimlessly extended, rather than being purposefully rounded off. Instead of acquiring new skills relevant for their own company, staff collect certificates more suited to looking good in their curriculum vitae. After all, advanced professional training courses makes employees attractive for other employers too: knowledge is the strategic raw material on the global market. This is even more true in connection with the development of logistics at all levels, not to mention the rapid pace of technological progress.

Objective of the Joint Project

The aim is to make a pioneering contribution to the development of advanced professional training in the logistics industry. The Supply Chain School serves as a novel tool and platform for the structuring, processing and dissemination of knowledge in logistics. The result is a digital study platform that teaches the relevant knowledge of logistics and uses the latest didactic methods. Companies can put together individual training packages for their staff at "corporate academies". The learning needs of the employees are central to the structure, content and didactic methods of each course.

Specific Innovations

All together, alongside the Supply Chain School three further concepts are being developed. These will be new not only from a scientific point of view, but also in the combination of science and technology. The modular structure of logistics training material combined with the individual learning needs of managers and experts (skill-based training courses) is supported by innovative study methods (blended learning, a combination of classroom teaching and computer-mediated activities) and an evaluation concept to rate the return on education in logistics.
