Supply Chain Execution - Service-Oriented Logistics Platform

IT has become an indispensable aspect of efficient logistics. Data quantities and complexity, however, are growing faster than our ability to cope with them. The control of logistical systems is currently undergoing a period of transition. Auto ID systems are becoming widespread and provide an extremely precise insight into the current status of a logistics system.

They form the basis for a technology which will lead to far-reaching changes. The purpose of the Supply Chain Execution project is to set the basis for the use of autonomous control approaches. The potential opportunities brought by auto ID technology play a major role in quick, cheap procurement, production and transport, with a minimum input of resources.

Objective of the Joint Project

The objective of the Joint Project is to develop a cross-company logistics solution based on a service-oriented platform with the support of mobile devices. The solution controls order processing and material flow at a local and interoperable level. The result is that targets throughout the entire logistical process chain are assured. The developments are currently being applied to the furniture industry, with application in other sectors becoming standard once the pilot phase is successfully completed.

Specific Innovations

As part of the research project, universally applicable solution components are being developed for the operative recording and control of material flows. These components will be made available to the user in the form of a "Plug & Control Centre" modular system. Solutions are being designed which will allow the services to be used even on mobile devices. With the help of logistical assistance systems, the "Plug & Control Centre" affords an overview of the logistics processes running at any one time. It identifies and visualises the status data of logistical objects and takes care of control tasks between different networks.
