log4green - EU Project

The conservation of resources, urban supply and the individualization of society are all challenges which logistics must face up to in Germany – but not only here: throughout Europe, countries and regions are developing innovative strategies, solutions and products. However, research in these fields is not currently networked to any great degree on an international level.

Logistics is working intensively towards shaping its new role as the leading authority for goods exchange. In Europe there are many common aspects and comparable conditions in the different countries. But the differences also mean international comparisons are exciting for research and in practice.

Objectives of the Project

In the EU-project “log4green”, 13 partners from six different European countries are working together to shape the future-oriented field of logistics. The aim is to compare the strategies of the European logistics regions with each other to see how their development concepts involve conserving resources. The project also aims to investigate the research potential in fields such as sustainability, conserving resources, multimodal transport and urban supply. Other aspects such as the dynamics of innovations, educating a new generation of logistics experts and networking the clusters also play an important role. The project “log4green” is being implemented as part of the 7th EU Research Framework Program and is also part of the “Regions of Knowledge” program. Since 1984, this program has been bundling European Union activities towards promoting research and research-associated activities.

Specific Innovations

An international agenda for strategic research and activities is being created in several packages with the help of benchmark analyses in logistics networks. The core competences of the regions involved form an excellent basis for future-oriented knowledge exchange. Both the common factors and the differences will inspire and activate specific scientific work.
